These Dogs Now Have A Family To Love!

These dogs are either our most recent rescues, or some of our more unique.  We've helped many more than we can
picture at any one time on our website, but we do like to share our successes.

This poor guy (we are calling him "Pitiful") has been rescued by P.A.W.S. and was evaluated by our veterinarians.
He suffers from a severe skin condition, malnutrition and other abuse.  His body should be 2x as big as it is, his
hind legs are severely deformed and have zero muscle.  It's our belief that he has been raised in a crate that was
much too small for him.  He has injuries to his neck and face and is suffering from a horrible skin condition that is
exacerbated by stress.  Even though this poor guy has been treated so miserably, it's amazing that he still passed
out tons of kisses to our P.A.W.S. volunteer, the vet tech and the vet that examined him.  Let's all keep our fingers
crossed that his outcome will be favorable.

Because P.A.W.S. does not foster certain breeds, Pitiful's care has been taken over by a breed-specific rescue in
the Chicago area.  The necessary veterinary care, rehab and fostering will be provided and he will, eventually, find his
forever home.  He is a perfect example of how rescue groups combined efforts can save lives.

This little guy was adopted by one of the P.A.W.S. volunteers because her son so desperately wanted him as "his dog."

Since the adoption, our volunteer's son has done a wonderful job of doing work to raise money to teke care of "his dog."

Such a wonderful tool, when used with supervision, to teach kids about pet responsibility and money management!  KUDOS!

This little sweet thing was adopted by a family with room to run and another dog to play with.

The poor little dog was adopted and then returned because he growled when he was being put in a crate.
He was just scared because everything was so new.  Since then, he has been adopted by a family in Joliet
and he is doing wonderful!  He just needed to have someone take the time and be patient to teach him
about all of the things in his brave new world.

This little gold female puppy was at Animal Control and, thankfully, found her forever home.
This little lady was adopted by a gentleman to surprise his wife/kids for Valentine's Day.
Before she went to her forever home, a local grooming shop gave her a nice bath and cleaned her up.
She also got a cute little heart scarf and then she went off to her new life.
The family that adopted her had been wanting a dog for awhile and we are grateful they adopted.

This girl was adopted by a very nice young man named Dan who has playmates waiting to play with her in her new forever home.
We don't yet have a name for her so we're calling her "Wonderful Girl."

"Boscoe" Male Black/Tan Coonhound Mix - P.A.W.S. rescued Boscoe from Animal Control after several had been euthanized.  Boscoe appears to be a blk/tan coonhound mix, but cannot be certain as he is a stray.  He is a wonderful boy - he is kennel trained, no fear issues, loves kids/people and will give a million kisses.  He looks intently into your eyes, waiting for commands and approval.  We estimate his age at 1-2 years. He is scheduled to be neutered on Feb. 8th. He is currently at PAWS Here Pet Resort who so graciously agreed to board and care for Boscoe until he finds his forever home.  All vaccination records and info. on "Boscoe" are on file at the resort.

UPDATE!  Great news - We took this boy out of Animal Control to keep him from being euthanized and, believe it or not, we got a call from the owner! She had been out-of-state and had left him with friends to take care of.  While there he somehow got away from them. The wonderful folks at PAWS HERE PET RESORT agreed to foster him and they are tickled to know that they kept him safe until his owner was able to find him.  Not only does he get a forever home, he gets to return to his home and his family!  Woo-Hoo!

Meet SHORTIE ! (f/k/a Cookie) A great retired couple from Streator who had always had a small dog who had lost theirs some time ago  had been waiting for the right time/dog and they found him.

Organization policy prohibits certain breeds from being place into our private foster homes but that doesn't mean that we don't occasionally come across a dog of one of those breeds that we do not help.  "Bella" was at Animal Control and was going to be euthanized but, thanks to the efforts of P.A.W.S. to the Rescue, a forever home was found for her!  This girl was adopted by a family who had a boston terrier and they wanted a playmate for her.

This lucky man was fortunate that a P.A.W.S. to the Rescue volunteer cared enough to scan him to see if he had a microchip because Animal Control did not.  A microchip registered to ARK Rescue in Lacon, Illinois, was detected when we scanned him and, as a result, ARK Rescue came and retrieved him from Animal Control and he escaped being euthanized.

Our microchip scanners have been one of the larger expenses that we have had to incur but he is just one example of how our owning a microchip scanner is essential to successful rescues.

Meet Reggie!  Such a sharp-dressed man!

"Elliott" was adopted in September by a family with 2 other wieners and now he now rules the roost.  He had been skunked horribly in the face and was very skinny and he even had issues with his eyes due to the skunking but, thanks to a wonderful groomer and great veterinary care, he is now doing great!

Meet Hollie!  She is a super sweet female Rat Terrier who now has a family!

Meet Cole!  Nice, young black lab who got a family just in time for the Holidays!

Meet Chico!  He was a "prisoner" at Animal Control, his days were numbered, and we were able to get a new foster so that we had room to rescue him.  Well, after about only one week of being a foster, we got a telephone call, early one morning that they had "flunked foster"....they decided that there was no way that they could ever give him up so he now HAS A PERMANENT HOME!

This guy is SAFE!  Things were looking pretty grim for this man for a while there.  Close call!

The dog pictured below has spent 1/2 of his life at Animal Control and just kept getting passed by on adoptions. He's now 10 months old but was about 5 months when he became homeless.

A group of very caring people from Streator pooled together their money to get this little guy completely vetted! Then, Mike Sipula from Ottawa, Illinois, knowing of this little guy's situation, took it upon himself to call The Times and run an ad to find him a home....AND HE WILL BE SLEEPING IN HIS NEW HOME NEXT WEEK!

How wonderful it is that people come together in the interest of saving a little dog whom no one ever even knew his name!

THANK YOU TO ALL THAT PARTICIPATED IN THIS RESCUE!

"Foxy"

Foxy was a victim of a tornado and, unfortunately, she was never claimed after being picked up by Animal Control.  Foxy now has a new home and, although storms really scare her to death, we are sure that they will help her feel safe again some day.

"Roxi"

Roxi has fit perfectly into our little family.  She is amazing with our 5 year old daughter and other children.  She is a great guard dog, yet gentle at the same time. She also likes playing dress up, which is too cute; she loves car rides and walks.  They are a MUST for this little girl!

We would like to say that we feel that rescue dogs are very appreciative of their new owners.  We are so happy that she found us!  We have since rescued yet another dog.  We used to call Bruno Roxi's "brother", but we think he is more of a boyfriend.  Thank goodness that P.A.W.S. to the Rescue had her spayed or we could have even more dogs that need homes.  Please remember to spay and neuter!

"Milli"

Milli is a Gordon Setter that was rescued when she was just 6 months old.  She was extremely emaciated, had very poor muscle tone and could walk only about 1/2 block before laying down and giving up.  Much love, patience and excellent nutrition have brought her back to a full recovery!

She now has a family that includes a 7 year old boy and 5 year old girl that absolutely adore her!  She is a "hugger" because she literally wraps her arms around you and lays her head on your chest if you squat down so that she can reach you.
"Oso"
Oso is the perfect dog!  He sleeps in the kids rooms and has bonded and follows the littlest one who was attacked by a Jack Russell last year and had stitches but, thanks to Oso, is no longer afraid of dogs.  All the kids are so in love that they never turned the TV on all weekend!  Oso has new brushes, collar, leashes and toys and even has a stay at home Mom!  His new Dad said that he sits, plays frisbee and, if someone is at the door, he only barks a few barks and then sits quietly at the door.  He is perfectly potty trained and stays off all furnature and beds.  He is allowed to get on them, but he will not do it.  ALL the kids (5 of them) gave him a bath and he loved it.  He just layed down and enjoyed the love.  All the kids were just giddy and he couldn't beleive - he thought Oso was smiling!  He's "Oso" lucky!

"Guenther"

Guenther is a German Short-Haired Pointer.  When Guenther was rescued, he suffered from extreme emaciation and a horrific case of Sarcoptic Mange.

After undergoing 2+ months of treatment and rehabilitation at Countryside Animal Clinic (he gained 17 pounds), Guenther was placed with one of our loving foster homes.  After having spent only one week in foster, Guenther was adopted to a loving family in the West Suburbs of Chicago.

In Guenther's new home, he has a "furry sister" that is a Weimaraner and another sister that is a Weimaraner/German Short-Hair mix.  His backyard is fenced and, not only does he have a built-in swimming pool, but he even has his own floatie so that he doesn't get too tired when he's taking a dip!

 "Chico" (n/k/a "Tucker")

"Chico" has been renamed "Tucker" because he tucks his dog biscuits into the couch cushions to save for later.  He's the greatest dog.  Now that it's nice out he just loves to run around in the back yard.  It's definitely HIS yard and he lets everybody know it. Yup, he's a yapper, but that's ok.  He sleeps with me at night and during the winter he even snuggled under the covers with me.  He has his own little sweater and a winter coat even for when it's cold. He's the dog I've been wanting all my life and I'm crazy about him. He's real happy here with me. He loves to ride so I take him to Fairbury to visit my parents. They're kind of nuts about him too.  He has a bunch of squeak toys that he plays with, but he loves being out in the back yard and I love to watch him run around out there.

Thanks for saving him and allowing me to bring him into my life. He's the best!

"Franklin"

"Franklin" was rescued from Streator Animal Control.  At that time, he was only about 4 months old and his voice was all but gone from whimpering and crying constantly.  No one could figure out why such a little, sweet dog had been running at large!

After receiving a clean bill of health from the vet, Franklin was placed into foster but it was only a matter of days until he captured everyone's hearts and he was adopted by his foster Mom and Dad.  He now has a furry brother that is a Puggle and from which he has taken over the job of ruling the roost!

"Molly P."

"Molly P." has a very sad story, with a very happy ending.  She was picked up and taken to Streator Animal Control where she stayed for quite some period of time.  No one could understand why she had not been claimed because she was a very polite lady.  Her "welcome" was running out, as Animal Control was full, and an appointment was scheduled for she and two other dogs to be euthanized.  Fortunately, because of the flyers that P.A.W.S. to the Rescue circulates and the willingness of one of our fosters to take in additional dogs, the appointment for the euthanasias became a "no show."  Word of this very close call spread quickly and P.A.W.S. was able to get Molly into foster.  She then found her forever home within just 2 short weeks and she is SO happy now!  Her new family just can't understand why they ever ended up with her but they are very happy that they did....she fits in perfectly!

She wants everyone to know that patience really does prevail!

"Archie"

"Archie" was about 8 weeks old when he arrived at Animal Control after someone had spray painted his head!  Why anyone would do such a thing is something that we will never know, but P.A.W.S. to the Rescue knew that this little guy needed some special care and attention if he was ever going to be able to trust anyone, and we had just the right foster for him.  He got to live with a wonderful man who had several other dogs, all of which were Beagles.  What a great environment!

After just two short, but very rewarding weeks in foster, P.A.W.s. received an Adoption Application from the perfect potential family who had lots of room in the country, several other animals (including geese) and were looking specifically for a dog that would be big when full-grown.  He was the perfect dog and has made their home complete and they've made his life complete.

"Blue"

"Blue" is a wonderful little man!  He was found by a person who tried to locate his owner, to no avail, so he was then taken to Streator Animal Control.  He was in pretty bad shape.

After the 5 day period to be claimed had passed and no one had come to look for him, he went into the care of P.A.W.S. to the Rescue.  The first thing that was done was a vet check to assess his problems.  He is blind in his left eye and is missing several teeth.  It was believed that these problems were caused by past injuries.  He was also just eaten up by fleas!

While in foster, after having received a full-blown, pampering groom, P.A.W.S. to the Rescue started "networking" him to try to get him adopted so that he could start recovering ... mentally.  The perfect forever home was located to a family in Princeton and he is forever grateful to everyone involved in seeing to it that he was saved!

"Magic"

Back in December, 2009, after losing our dear Lizzy, we were approached by P.A.W.S. to the Rescue about adopting a stray female black lab (coincidentally) found with a green collar.  A good samaritan had been keeping the dog and trying to find the owner. Although we were still grieving over our dog, we decided to adopt the dog because my son was so distraught over the loss of Lizzy--she was his best friend.  He quickly named the new dog Magic.  Because Magic was not house broken, in heat, and somewhat hyper we were first very overwhelmed.  Well, within two short weeks, Magic adjusted, we adjusted, and we have the, tied for first place, best dog ever!! It is almost like our Lizzy was reincarnated in Magic. Just thought I would share a happy ending to a sad sorry!!

"Betty"

Betty was one of our first, real successes!  She somehow ended up at Animal Control and, after being there too long, an appointment was scheduled on a Thursday to have her euthanized.  On Tuesday, a lady came into town (lived way out on Leonore Road) and saw her dog that she had been looking for for over 5 weeks on the P.A.W.S. flyer that was in the bank.  She asked, "who has my dog?"  She was directed to call Streator Animal Control and, thankfully, she was picked up by her owner the day before she was scheduled to die.  The last her owners had seen her was 5 weeks prior....she was laying on their front porch when they left to go to church.  They came home and she was gone.  She is why P.A.W.S. continues to this day to take pictures and distribute flyers with the pictures of these dogs!

"Buddy"

Buddy is a Chow/Yellow Lab mix that was found by a nice young lady in town.  Because he was so "nourished," she was just sure that someone had to be missing him so she called Streator Animal Control, figuring that his owners would be able to find him there.  After seeing him on the P.A.W.S. flyer several weeks in a row, she began to worry....to the point of panic that he was going to be euthanized.

She called P.A.W.S. to the Rescue and asked what she needed to do to formally adopt him because she "just couldn't sleep" knowing his situation.  He is now a member of her family, all of whom love him like he'd been there his entire life!  They all complete each other!

"Buddy #2"

Buddy #2 was only at Animal Control (maybe) two weeks when they filled up so fast over Labor Day Weekend that P.A.W.S. to the Rescue was actually contacted on a Saturday to ask if we could help.  One of P.A.W.S. fosters and her husband responded to the call, intending to take two dogs into their home so that others wouldn't be euthanized.  (See "Molly P" above).

When our foster arrived at the barns with her husband, they knew that they couldn't just leave without helping more.  There were SO many dogs and there were two very little, very scared dogs too.  They left with 4 dogs!  By Monday, 2 had been approved for adoption and our foster home in Streator fostered one and another foster home in Manlius, Illinois, fostered Buddy #2.  He was placed in a wonderful home in Walnut, Illinois, and is living happily ever after!

"Buddy #3"

Buddy #3 is a little old man!  He was SO full of fleas, thin and had very bad teeth which is why he was so thin...he could hardly eat.

Even though he was old, there was a very nice man in Streator whose sister had seen the P.A.W.S. flyer and wanted to see him immediately.  P.A.W.S. met them with Buddy #3 and, after approval, he was placed in his forever home.  Within one short week, this little guy was neutered and had had a complete "doggy dental" and had several teeth pulled. After a course of antibiotics and a soft food diet, he is ready a lot of years to come with a family that loved at first sight!

"Spencer" (f/k/a "Chance")

Spencer's da man!  He was P.A.W.S. to the Rescues first rescue!  He was a mere 7 or 8 weeks old and was found running...wet and hungry when the remnants of Hurricane Gustav came through Streator and dumped about 10" of rain!  During this horrific rain, P.A.W.S. to the Rescue scooped this little guy up and got him into foster.  It was believed, at that time, that he had not had much contacts with humans because he was very wild and did NOT want to be pet, held or snuggled.

After 6 months of training Spencer, he finally made it into a wonderful home where he now gets to play with all of the chickens!

"Clifford"

Clifford was so old when he was picked up by Animal Control.  As you can see from this picture, he was SO full of hair and was blowing his coat so bad that he was miserable...not to mention the fleas!

He was placed on the P.A.W.S. to the Rescue flyer and one of the licensed P.A.W.S. fosters called and said "I want the old dog on the flyer."  Our thought was that she wanted to foster him but we were wrong.  She knew that he had to have spent a very long life in a home....somewhere.  She was not wanting to foster him.  She was adopting him - sight-unseen.  She wanted to make sure that he had a soft place to fall, when the time came, because she knew that he had earned the right to live out his days somewhere other than on a concrete slab at Animal Control.  What a wonderful lady!

"Daisy"

Daisy was found in an ice storm and had been seen running for a couple of days, but no one could catch her.  She finally got so frozen, cold and probably weak that she surrendered.  At that time, it was also suspected that she was carrying a litter.  The vet couldn't be sure that it was an actual pregnancy but P.A.W.S. to the Rescue had a new foster that agreed to foster her and her puppies should it turn out that way.  It turned out to be a false pregnancy.  When it was time, she was spayed so that this issue would never become a reality.

She was so loved in her foster home and had bonded so well with our foster home children that she was adopted by them in no time.  It could be said that they flunked foster but, truth is, they've fostered MANY dogs since adopting Daisy because it's even more apparent to them how much fosters are needed by our furry friends.

"Daisy May"

Daisy May is one of the little dogs that was at Streator Animal Control when they filled up so fast over Labor Day weekend of 2009.  (See "Molly P" and "Buddy" above).  She was adopted to a great family in Streator, in fact, to a local business owner - just as Molly P. was adopted to a local business owner.

She is very much loved and she loves them back!

"Duke #2"

Check out this guy's muscle structure!  Wow!  He must be doing doggie weight lifting.

A nice couple from Ottawa called P.A.W.S. to the Rescue to see if we had any young Black Labs available for adoption.  It just so happened that this big boy was at Streator Animal Control with no tags, no micro chip and had not been claimed.

They met us at the Animal Control facility to "see" him and that was all it took.  He was just what they were looking for!  As it turns out, someone spent some time with this guy because he knew basic commands and has learned others very quickly and easily.

Another good rescue!

"Daisyy Mayy" (Yes, 4 "ys")

Daisyy Mayy was adopted by a couple in Streator who were looking for a "puppy."  Daissy Mayy was not a real little puppy - she was about 6 months old or so.

Like many rescues, they fell in love at first sight.  Because she was so hyper, P.A.W.S. to the Rescue loaned her one of its crates so that she could be contained, potty trained and they could be sure that she wouldn't end up escaping and running-at-large (which is why she was at Animal Control) and, after time, patience and training, she managed to become a pretty nice little lady.

She still has a chewing problem but it's amazing what these little cuties can get away with, isn't it!  You just gotta love em!

"Hannah Belle"

Hannah Belle is the 4th of the 4 that were rescued over Labor Day weekend by one of our fosters.  (See "Molly P", "Buddy #2" and "Daisy May" above).

She was adopted to a wonderful family in Gridley, Illinois, and is pampered as much as any little, 6 pound pound lady deserves.  She was very shy and scared at first, but she warmed up to her new family very nicely.  She's a real sweetie!

"Mitch"

Mitch my man!  What can we say!  You captured their hearts!

Your new Dad saw you when he was at Animal Control looking for a friend's dog that was lost in Ottawa - her name was "Oreo."  This was on a Friday.  Your Dad-to-be spent the entire weekend in near agony, knowing that you were in a kennel with lots of big dogs barking all around you, all weekend.

First thing Monday morning, your Dad-to-be contacted P.A.W.S. to asked for assistance in adopting you.  He had several other Beagles that he knew that you would just love to grow up with.

You taught your new Dad some new tricks.  It's because of you that he and his neighbors are now fosters and supporters of P.A.W.S. to the Rescue!  Bless you all!

"Zoe"

Zoe is a little Corgi/Jack Russell mix that was picked up by Animal Control and, thank goodness she was.  It was during a terrible icing in December of 2009.  Animal Control was aware of a negative history on this little lady and, as such, contacted P.A.W.S. to the Rescue to help her immediately.

After spending a couple of weeks in foster, Zoe was adopted to a wonderful young couple who were visiting over the Holidays from beautiful sunny San Diego, California.  After a long plane ride (in the cabin), she arrived in her new home where she is loved SO much!  She goes for a run nearly every morning and evening and even gets to join them for dinner at places as nice as McCormick and Schmicks!  If there is any dog that deserves this, it's Zoe after all that she went through in her brief little past.

"Jane"

Jane is a sweet little Shepherd mix that was adopted by this nice couple from Sheridan, Illinois.  She was at Animal Control for several weeks and no one claimed her.  As they all are, she was just so sweet and deserving.

Streator Voice carried an "plug" for P.A.W.S. to the Rescue and that's how they found out about little Jane.  They drove down from Sheridan "just to see" and that was all that it took.  She melted their hearts!

"Mya"

Mya is a Gordon Setter/Doberman mix that was abandoned in an apartment in Streator.  Animal Control, thankfully, picked her up and she spent several weeks at the barns and was then rescued by P.A.W.S. (because she was going to be euthanized) and we placed into one of our foster homes.  The strange thing was that Mya had a rabies tag that we traced back to Grand Rapids, Michigan, and we were excited about finding her owners.  We contacted the animal clinic that issued her tag and they actually gave us the names of her owners, their address and their phone number.  How exciting was that?!  To think that we were involved in a rescue that spanned for miles!  Unfortunately, after many attempts and even a lot of research, we were never able to locate Mya's Mom and Dad, the phone had been disconnected and their neighbors said that they had moved and no one knew where so Mya was, indeed, homeless.

This story gets more beautiful....These two little kids had been working for over a year to prove that they were old enough and responsible enough to have a dog.  There was still concern because no one knew how good "the dog" was going to be and, if it wasn't, would these guys still be able to handle it?  It turned out to be the best of both worlds!  Mya was crate trained, housebroken, not a chewer - - - none of those bad traits!  She was perfect and, as you can see, it's a match made in heaven that spans from Grand Rapids, Michigan, to Pontiac, Illinois!

"Reno"

Oh sweet Reno!  What a time you had!  You spent 6 weeks, over Christmas of 2008, at Animal Control.  Everyone was just sure when you arrived that you would soon be claimed, but it never happened.  You were so sweet and gentle and P.A.W.S. took you under their wing to find you a nice place to live.  You were already 8 or 9 years old but everyone knew that you had a lot to offer.

You had a growth on your eye lid (like a wart) that rubbed your eyeball every time that you blinked so that was the first thing that we had taken care of.  Dr. Lou did such a nice job and he just loved you!

You then got to go to a wonderful home out around Princeton.  You got a mom and dad that adore you and many other critters to keep you company, even goats!

"Quincy"

P.A.W.S. to the Rescue received a call from a person who was very concerned about this pretty lady.  Quincy's owner had left her with them so that they could find her a new home.  They thought that she refused to potty train and that she was coming into heat.  After we picked her up and shaved all of her matted hair shaved off, she was taken to the vet where it was determined that she was not in heat (she'd been spayed), but that she had such a raging urinary tract infection that she couldn't hold her potty and she was bleeding...how painful!  On top of it, she had such bad ear infections that, when she shook her head, the fluid just flew out of them - all over!

After a rigorous course of antibiotics, Quincy was adopted to a man who is nearly 80 and had just had to put his dog down.  Quincy needed G-Pa as bad a he needed her.  She sure made his long, dark, winter days much brighter!

"Molly K."

Molly is something else!  She was just a baby when she was picked up.  Her fosters tried everything to potty train her and could tell that she really wanted to "be good" but she just kept having trouble.  After several vet exams, a culture was finally run and came back positive with three separate pathogens!  She had issues that only a couple of rarely used, broad-spectrum antibiotics would help.  She was finally ready to go into a permanent home!

She was adopted by a great couple in Streator who just bought their house and had a fenced yard.  What a perfect home for Molly!  She only "tricked" them a couple of times and, since then, she's gotten older and wiser and has been behaving very well.  They just love her, but, then again, who couldn't love this face?

"Molly"

Molly was an owner surrender because she was just too high-strung for the older couple that owner her.  She wasn't a bad dog, but she just hadn't had the training that she needed to have and was a bit unruly.

We had just learned of her situation when we held our first major fundraiser at the Knights of Columbus and, as luck would have it, one of the ladies working the event that night was looking for a dog just like her.

She was soon adopted and, although the knew that she was going to be a handful, they also knew that they were going to love her through it!  They're one big, happy family now.

"Joey"

Joey spent SO much time at Animal Control and P.A.W.S. just didn't have an available foster for him but he was so worth it!

Because of our good relationship with Livingston County Humane Society, we were able to make a donation to them to help cover the cost of his veterinary care and they agreed to provide him time with a trainer so that he could become adoptable.

He spent a few weeks at their facility while he went to his trainer twice a week.  Of course all of their volunteers knew to work with him in the meantime.  Good thing was, he finally came around and was adopted to a great home where he can live in the country and do what he was born to do - be wild!

"Jake"

Jake was at Animal Control for about 4 weeks when P.A.W.S. licensed another foster so that he could be safe.  It would have been so disheartening to see a puppy euthanized because he was a stray.  He was a wild man, but our foster was ready for the challenge, and a challenge he was.  (Here's an article that talks about his time in foster)

After a period of time and two different fosters, P.A.W.S. had a great home for him in Sherman, Illinois, outside of Springfield, Illinois.  It was the perfect place for a dog like Jake because they had 7 acres, fenced, a goat and a female lab mix for him to play with - not to mention the chickens and the pond!  My goodness!  When we arrived at their house with him, he'd never been around any body of water but jumped out of the car and went rip-tearin' straight for the dock and dove in!  He was home!

"Max and Duke"

These two, one year old labs were picked up, running-at-large, SO many times by Animal Control that we truly thought that they should just have their own key!  They are litter mates who are not neutered and who just wanted to run and pro-create as fast as they could.  The were claimed the first few times but on their 3rd or 4th time being picked up, the weren't and everyone knew that they were going to be difficult to place because they were so wild.

They were on several flyers that P.A.W.S. circulated and lo and behold...a couple was at Countryside Animal Clinic, saw that they were on the flyer and adopted them both!  Of course, as all dogs are, they were neutered and then got to go live in their new home, one a farm out in Manville.  They are in heaven!

"Suki"

Suki was dropped off at Animal Control as a stray and we can only assume that her poor eye health had a lot to do with it.  This poor girl had a condition called "Entropion" which means that her eyelids rolled inward and that every time she blinked, her eyelashes/eyelids rubbed her corneas.  Left untreated, she would eventually go blind.  As you can see, she was miserable!!  She would get so excited when you entered her kennel but went she opened her eyes to see you and the air and light hit them, the tears would just pour!  Her eyes burned so bad that the City agreed to let P.A.W.S. take her because she needed vet care - and needed it yesterday!  If anyone were to call looking for her, they would be referred to P.A.W.S.

Suki stayed at Countryside Animal Clinic for one week so that they could get her eye infections under control.  Suki was then returned to Animal Control to give her owner an opportunity to come forward for her.  No luck!  Thankfully, the City employees that take care of the dogs at Animal Control diligently applied her antibiotic eye drops every day so that her condition would not rebound.  They really do care!

Because “Entropion” is only corrected surgically, Dr. Harms (Countryside Animal Clinic) operated on December 21st.  Most Entropion cases involve only the lower lid but Suki’s condition involved both the upper and lower lids.  After a very precise, artistic surgery, (much like plastic surgery), Suki’s eyes were on their way to finally being normal.  When asked about how much pain she would experience following surgery, Dr. Harms stated that she would probably have less pain than what she has had all of her life.  We couldn’t imagine that even being possible since he had to cut both eyes, all the way around.  Her stitches will be removed just before the New Year!

After not being claimed, an article was run in The Times in search of the right home for Suki.  Many applications were received and P.A.W.S. approved a family from Marseilles, where she now lives with two Black Lab brothers and a Border Collie/Aussie Shepherd mix sister.  They live on a very large piece of property in a very rural area where Suki, once she learns the property boundaries, will be able to run and aren't those big brown eyes so pretty now?

Please enjoy this our year-end wrap up article where she is discussed:

"Lucky Star"

Lucky Star is a little Poodle mix that was just scared to death at Animal Control.  Please don't misunderstand, it's not that bad a place (until your time is up) and it's better than most of these dogs have probably known all of their lives.  It's heated in the winter and air-conditioned in the summer but, this little girl was just beside herself.  She was so intimidated by the other dogs, most were so big and loud too!

We thought that, whomever bought her this pretty little collar would be missing her, but she was never claimed.  P.A.W.S. put her into one of its foster homes and she was adopted within just a few days and is loved dearly....she's the perfect dog!

 English Springer Spaniel - Male

P.A.W.S. to the Rescue helped save this little guy on May 27th.  We were able to network with other rescues and eventually got him placed with ESRA, which is a fabulous group.

Anyone interested in giving this guy a permanent, loving home, please contact ESRA through its website:
