Peoples' Animal Welfare Service to the Rescue, Inc., d/b/a "P.A.W.S. to the Rescue" was founded in July of 2008.  Because many areas do not have a County-funded humane society, strays are left to their own volition.  P.A.W.S. to the Rescue saw a real need to help communities by organizing to:

1.  Prevent cruelty to animals;
2.  Support animal welfare by retrieving homeless, unwanted
     and/or mistreated canines;
3.  Provide necessary medical care, and spaying/neutering,
     for unwanted and/or mistreated canines; and
4.  Place canines into permanent, loving homes.

Once a dog has been taken in, P.A.W.S. will attempt to place the dog into one of its foster homes.  During such time, the dog will receive all veterinary care including spay/neuter, vaccinations, heartworm check and microchip.  Once a new owner is secured, the dog will then be placed into his/her loving, permanent home.

This year marks the 4th year P.A.W.S. has been saving dogs.  With over 325 rescues/ rescue assists, the future is very bright. We know one thing for certain; the over-breeding of dogs will continue. Although we all hope for the day when our support is not necessary, reality shows that our rescue will need to continue to grow. Your financial involvement will make it possible for us to be here when our furry friends need help You can help by:

  • Become a foster - Even if you foster only one per year, that will help.
  • Adopt - There are few things that are more fulfilling than knowing that you gave another chance to a homeless dog!  It can be challenging in the beginning, but they are so appreciative and truly happy!
  • Donate - Our organization could not exist without support from the community.  All donations are tax deductible within the definition of the Internal Revenue Code as we are a 501(c)(3) organization.

    I rescued a human today.

    Her eyes met mine as she walked down the corridor peering apprehensively into the kennels. I felt her need instantly and knew I had to help her. I wagged my tail, not too exuberantly, so she wouldn't be afraid.

    As she stopped at my kennel I blocked her view from a little accident I had in the back of my cage. I didn't want her to know that I hadn't been walked today. Sometimes the shelter keepers get too busy and I didn't want her to think poorly of them.

    As she read my kennel card I hoped that she wouldn't feel sad about my past. I only have the future to look forward to and want to make a difference in someone's life.

    She got down on her knees and made little kissy sounds at me. I shoved my shoulder and side of my head up against the bars to comfort her. Gentle fingertips caressed my neck; she was desperate for companionship.

    A tear fell down her cheek and I raised my paw to assure her that all would be well. Soon my kennel door opened and her smile was so bright that I instantly jumped into her arms. I would promise to keep her safe. I would promise to always be by her side. I would promise to do everything I could to see that radiant smile and sparkle in her eyes. I was so fortunate that she came down my corridor. So many more are out there who haven't walked the corridors. So many more to be saved. At least I could save one.

    I rescued a human today!
